Like Onion, this artifact consists of various living cells that can be attributed to almost every kingdom. Botanists studying the Zone's vegetation believe that the Proto-Onion might be a kind of fruit, whereas the regular Onion is more like a seed. At the same time, zoologists think that the artifact might represent the larval stage of some animal's development.\n\n Unfortunately, for scientists struggling to understand the nature of these two artifacts, it has not been possible to determine whether they are alive to the extent understood before the Zone's anomaly appeared, due to the many discrepancies of their nature with classical biology.
